Things to Think About when Buying Luggage Suitcases and Bags
When you are buying luggage suitcases and similar equipment, there are many things to consider. But one thing that many people fail to think about is the quality of the handle. The handle is actually one of the most important elements. It is often the first thing to wear out on a cheap or poorly made item.
The most durable handles are mounted using metal or metal-reinforced bases. They will have a number of rivets, screws and prongs to attach the handle to the case itself. When you are shopping, consider the size of your hand, the size of the bag and the size of the handle.
Handles that are small do not work well for a man with large hands. If the bag is large, the handles should be oversized as well. A small handle on a large bag will wear out quickly and be more difficult to carry.
The systems that last the longest are housed within the bag itself and pop or pull out when needed. You often see this type of arrangement on luggage suitcases and other items that have wheels. The best ones are adjustable to different heights, so that people of different heights can easily carry the same bag. Push button releases allow for single-handed release of the handle, increasing the ease of use.
Pull straps are sometimes used instead of hard metal and plastic handles. The straps may be just as long lasting, as long as they are properly attached to the case itself. Read the brochure if you are buying online. You want to be sure that the straps have been reinforced, particularly if this is a heavy case or will be heavy when packed.
Zippers are another small item that is often overlooked when choosing soft-sided luggage suitcases and garment bags or backpacks. Yet, there is nothing more frustrating than a zipper that will not zip, gets off track or gets stuck on the material.
Continuous molded zippers are the most durable. They do not have “teeth” like metal and brass zippers. The teeth of metal and brass zippers can become bent, making them unusable. Some people like the appearance and feel that they “look” stronger. But, the molded nylon zippers are actually stronger.
Polyester coils are a less expensive version of the continuous molded zipper. They can split or pop open under pressure. That doesn’t mean that the zipper is unusable after it occurs. Re-zipping will close the gap. But, it does mean that everything may fall out of your luggage suitcases or other bags, making for an unpleasant experience.
